Ninety percent of our weight loss results do not come from diet and exercise,
They come from what’s in our MIND.
We want to lose weight, we want to fit into these pants, weigh this number, or be a size ___
What we NEED is to face the real truth of WHY and HOW we got to this space in the first place.
I talk a lot (like A LOT) about “sustainable” results and what that means. It means that we don’t have to do it over again and again and again. So that we don’t have to lose and gain the same 20 pounds for ten years back and forth.
It stinks doesn’t it? I’ve been there before. I’m there now. In fact, I’m in an extremely vulnerable space this year. I’ve gained some weight back because of it and guess what?
I gained because there was STUFF going on BENEATH THE SURFACE
And I’m going to talk more about my journey with this in a future post, but here’s what I really want to point out today:
You can have everything nailed down around your food and your exercise, but if you don’t critically examine what is going on beneath the surface, you’ll always have to keep doing it over and over again.
Gaining then losing. Getting into *those* jeans then they’re too tight again, getting to *that* number only to check again in 3 months to see it rise back up.
There was STUFF going on beneath my food and beneath my consistent exercise that I was not dealing with very well. It wasn’t affecting whether I exercised or not or whether I overate or not. Those are deeply practiced habits and they’ve rarely wavered during this “storm.” — But the storm was affecting HOW I ate and WHY, and it was affecting HOW my body was using that fuel and how FAST my body and my energy broke down from what I was normally used to.
Our body’s are complex beings. They know what they’re doing.
We do not.
My question to you today is this: Do you know what’s going on beneath your surface?
I KNOW you know a lot about nourishing food and about exercise. And you probably know what tweaks you can make to do better in those areas. But are you blaming the food and exercise for your non-results when those things might not be at fault?
I’m getting ready to take you through a journey here on my blog. I may be a few steps ahead of you and have some formal education in coaching, fitness, and nutrition; HOWEVER, I walked your path and will always be paving one forward.
Right now, I’m in a space you may find yourself in one day.
One where you know A LOT of information and how to “get it done” with your body, but you, nevertheless, fall due to circumstances out of your control. And….what if you don’t FEEL like standing up right now?
These are the questions I’ve pondered this year. It’s definitely BENEATH THE SURFACE STUFF, and we’re going there! If I don’t dive into this and stand in all my vulnerability, I will end up “staying down” from my fall. That IS called failure. And that’s now how I want this storm to end 🙂
